About Our Organization
Who We Are
The United Way of Langlade County is a non-profit organization comprised of unpaid volunteers from the local community who raise and distribute funds each year. Local groups or non-profit organizations called affiliates provide services to Langlade County with those funds.
How Fund Distribution Is Determined By United Way of Langlade County
The United Way of Langlade County meets with local groups each year. Representatives explain to the Board what the non-profit organization does and how United Way funds will benefit individuals and families in Langlade County. After reviewing all of the requests, the Board determines how much can be allocated to each group. An organization may receive some or all of the requested amount. The United Way of Langlade County meets the affiliate requests to the best of their financial ability.
Our goal is to educate and support our clients and our community in making balanced, healthy food choices. Using the federal MyPlate guidelines, we acquire, purchase, and distribute healthy food. Education is a key aspect of this goal, which encourages individuals to make choices appropriate for their specific circumstances. Our nutritional approach is a long term commitment that we expect to evolve over time. Ultimately, we strive to go beyond filling bellies and instead nourish healthy, productive lives.
The WeekEnd Backpack (WEB) Program sustains Antigo's future through nutritional support and education. From October to May, backpacks are prepared weekly and sent home through Antigo area schools. They contain easy-to-prepare food, and nutritional information such as recipes, for children and families. Applications are available through school secretaries and guidance counselors. About 400 volunteers help this program work, from packing, transporting, and hanging up backpacks to fundraising and coordinating work. It costs $160 per child per school year to fund WEB.
